UNP Receives Visit From Chairman Of Mentawai DPRD

Padang – Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP) held a meeting with the Chairman of the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) of Mentawai Regency Yosep, S.A.Kt, Wednesday (24/4/2024) morning.

The meeting, which was held in the Senate Room of the UNP Rectorate Building, discussed the follow-up of the Mentawai Regency Government’s cooperation plan with UNP regarding the opening of the UNP Study Program Outside the Main Campus (PSDKU) in Mentawai.

UNP Rector, Prof. Ganefri, Ph.D in his speech revealed UNP’s plans and steps to build PSDKU in Mentawai Regency. He is also committed that UNP can increase the Human Development Index (HDI) in Mentawai.

“UNP as the largest university in West Sumatra can contribute to development in Mentawai,” he said.

Furthermore, he also revealed a number of study programs that are planned to be opened in Mentawai, including Elementary School Teacher Education (PGSD) and Physical Education Sports and Health (Penjaskes), but he also saw an opportunity to open a Hospitality Management Study Program in Mentawai considering the tourism potential in the area.

He also thanked and appreciated the Mentawai Regency DPRD for their visit to UNP. “On behalf of the leadership of Padang State University, we would like to welcome and thank you for your visit to UNP.”

Meanwhile, Yosep, S.A.Kt in a discussion guided by the Moderator, Director of Planning and Cooperation, Yusrizal, S.Pd, M.Pd. said he really appreciated the plan to open PSDKU in Mentawai.

“This is a blessing for Mentawai and we will not waste this opportunity,” he explained.

Yosep also revealed a number of other potentials owned by the Mentawai Islands as a reference to be able to develop a number of other study programs, such as the potential of fisheries, agriculture and plantations.

Also present at the event were Secretary of the Mentawai Islands Regency DPRD Sukirman, Head of the Mentawai Islands Regency Education Office, Vice Rector (WR) 1 and III, University Secretary, Deans, Directors, Heads and Secretaries of Institutions, and other UNP Leaders.
